Glitches in The Getaway

Shortcut Glitch
MISSION 24 - Land Of Hope And Glory
Character: DC Frank Carter
Mission Briefing: Escape From The Sol Vita
Info: After the FMV sequence you start the mission on top of a platform. After you climb down the ladder there is an explosion behind you which takes down the ladder and platform you just climbed down, blocking off that way as a means of escape. To your left there is a path you can go down but once you get close enough to it there is another explosion which brings that platform down as well, again blocking off your path which is supposed to force you to turn around and go through the only path left which will take about a minute to get through. However, if you find the right spot you can take a nice shortcut and snip sixty seconds or so off your escape route by walking (or rolling) straight through the blockade (the collapsed platform from the explosion) making the mission incredibly easy, since it is only hard due to the short timeframe you are given to get to the outside deck of the ship before Charlie Jolson's finger comes off the (explosive's detonator) trigger. It works everytime, it's just hard sometimes getting the right spot but even a few tries to get through is still much quicker than having to go through the warehouse section and being slowed up by having to dispose of the remaining gang members who refuse to stop fighting despite the looming prospect of being blown sky high.

Firetruck Glitch
MISSION 15 - Disturbance In Soho
Character: DC Frank Carter
Mission Briefing:

A weird glitch that happened to me during Mission 15. I noticed one of the firetrucks kept dissappearing from view all of a sudden and then it would be visible again. It got weirder though, as soon as I pressed circle to get in the car, the roads and buildings dissappeared from view and

The Getaway's virtual London

The Getaway has taken several years and literally thousands and thousands of photographs to accurately recreate a virtual 3D version of the city of London. Of course not every side street is included (which I'm thankfull for because I get lost enough as it is!) but all the major landmarks are there, all the major streets and even real world shops like Pizza Hut, The Body Shop, Starbucks, Armani are included in the game.

Of course London isn't going to stay the same forever, so for example whilst MI:2 (Mission Impossible 2) might have been on in cinemas at the time the game was created, it is long gone from theatres now. I think it's good that details like this were included, it adds to the realism when you pass by a real world cinema complex in the game and see the name of an actual movie that exists.

Below is a video showing a comparison between some real images taken on Great Marlborough Street and in-game footage from the same view point.

Peugeot 306 GTi

Peugeot 306 GTi (modified)
Colour(s): Green, Grey

The Peugeot 306 GTi has purple underbody neon lights, a bodykit and a large sound system in the boot (not that it appears to do anything).

How to find the modified "boy racer" Peugeot 306 GTi from the underground carpark where the Honda Civic coupe and Saab 9X Concept car are found.

From the carpark exit take the first left down the one-way street (you will be travelling with the flow of traffic).

Take the next left (you will now be travelling the wrong way down a one-way street).

Then take a right onto a main road.

You will come to an intersection, take this exit (it's straight ahead).

Follow the road to the end, there is a roundabout, turn right.

You will see a blue wall on the right, turn right at the end of it into an alley (drive through the boxes).

Drive into the entrance on the right and follow it down to the bottom.

The car is in the far right corner hidden behind a container.

Saab 9X Concept Car

Saab 9X Concept Car (2001)
Colour(s): White

Below are instructions on how to find the Saab 9X Concept Car (and a Triad gang Honda Civic coupe) from the free roam start location.
From the free roam start location take the third right (you will be driving the wrong way down a one-way street).

Keep following the road straight until you come across the Chinatown entrance on your left (it can easily be spotted because it has dark pavement where as the surrounding pavement is light).

When you get to the end of Chinatown you will see the entrance to the underground carpark straight ahead.

On level 2A is the Honda Civic coupe (it can be purple or green in colour). It is a triad gang car.

Honda Civic coupe (2002)
Colour(s): Purple, Green

Now back to the Saab 9X's location..

On the very last level of the carpark (the bottom level) you will find the white Saab 9X concept car.

There it is! Enjoy!

The Getaway Secret Cars

There are 10 secret cars hidden in the game (11 in Version 2 and US editions I believe). Some are only found in free roam mode whilst others can also be found during missions.

Secret cars:
1. Lotus Super 7 (Seven) MK II
2. Nissan Skyline R33 GTR (modified)
3. TVR Cerbera
4. Lotus M250
5. Go-Kart
6. Peugeot 306 GTi (modified)
7. Saab 9X Concept
8. Lotus Esprit
9. Golf Cart
10. Armoured Vehicle (Tank)

The 11th car (PAL Version 2 and US editions) is apparently located in the same underground carpark where the modified Peugeot 306 GTi is found. I've heard that it's a Maserati Coupe but since I have PAL Version 1 I can't confirm what kind've car it is for certain. For more info on this bonus car see here.

The Getaway Music

Yardie Crack House Song

The song playing during the movie at the start of Mission 5 (Taxi For Mr Chai), when Sparky is seen torturing Johnny Chai is "C'mon" by Junior Senior.

Free Roaming Mode

After you complete all 24 missions in the game, Free Roaming is unlocked (or see below how you can unlock it with a cheat). To access it simply select Extra Features at the Main Menu, then select Free Roaming.

As the name suggests you are free to roam the streets of London without any missions to complete. The police and gangs will still chase you at times and try to arrest you, shoot you, ram you off the road etc. but not nearly as much as they would during the mission mode.

Unfortunately there are no inside areas like buildings or houses accessible to explore in free roam mode which is a bit dissapointing but most players like myself I think will still find plenty of things to do that make free roaming a rewarding and fun part of the game.

If you don't want to wait until you finish the game to get to cruise around the city with complete freedom there is a cheat that unlocks Free Roaming for you.

Unlock Free Roaming:
During the game intro press TRIANGLE, TRIANGLE, TRIANGLE, LEFT, SQUARE, TRIANGLE, TRIANGLE, TRIANGLE, LEFT, CIRCLE.

Below I have included some images further explaining how to do this and how to select free roam.

Enter the code during the intro.

If you entered the code correctly you should see a green hued screen for a few seconds and hear the sound of a woman groaning/screaming.

Select extra features from the main menu.

You can now use free roaming mode and view the credits if you wish.

You play Free Roaming as Mark Hammond and you start out straight away driving one of the "hidden" or "secret" cars in the game, the Lotus Super 7 MKII.

Mark Hammond in the Lotus Super 7 at the start location.

You start out facing east on Great Marlborough Street in Soho. You most likely start out here because Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's London Studio and Sony Music offices are located on the north side of this street.

Here you can see where you start in the Lotus Super 7.

Courthouse Kempinski Hotel
(19-21 Great Marlborough Street)

Next building to the right.

Next building to the right.

Possibly 13 Great Marlborough Street (see info below)

You can see the blue 'Sony Music' sign on the building.

Sony Music Entertainment
(10 Great Marlborough Street)

There are listings for SCEE at 10 Great Marlborough Street (same adress for Sony Music), so if they share the same building I wonder why they decided to only have "Sony Music" displayed on the building in the game?

There is also a listing for SCEE Technology Group at 13 Great Marlborough Street London, which would be one of the buildings above (somewhere between Sony Music and the Courthouse Kempinski Hotel).

Whatever the case it seems the starting point has been chosen due to the streets connection with Sony.
